Current status: Resolved
We are aware that some emails sent from SEMINE are being delayed, deferred, or in some cases not delivered. This is not a problem with SEMINE sending, your SEMINE account, or your data. SEMINE and our email delivery provider are successfully sending these emails; the delay is happening on Microsoft's side, where their mail servers are currently throttling and delaying incoming mail from our delivery provider before it reaches the recipient's inbox.
What's happening
SEMINE uses SendGrid (part of Twilio) to send transactional emails, including:
- pending invoice notifications
- password reset emails
SendGrid has confirmed it is successfully accepting and attempting to deliver these emails. The issue is on the receiving end: SendGrid has reported that Microsoft's mail servers are currently throttling and delaying incoming connections from SendGrid's sending infrastructure, specifically for recipients on Microsoft email infrastructure such as Outlook.com, Microsoft 365, and Exchange Online addresses. This coincides with a separate, broader service disruption on Microsoft's side affecting Exchange Online mail flow and authentication. In short: the email leaves SEMINE and SendGrid without issue — it's Microsoft's servers on the receiving end that are delaying or rejecting the incoming mail, not a failure to send.
Because these are two independent, upstream services outside of SEMINE's infrastructure, the scope, severity, and duration of the impact can change at any time without any change on our end. Rather than post updates here as those details shift, we're keeping this article focused on what it means for you and pointing you to the providers' own live status pages, which are the most accurate and up-to-date source at any given moment:
- Twilio SendGrid status: status.twilio.com
- Microsoft 365 service status: Microsoft 365 Status on X (or your Microsoft 365 admin center's Service Health dashboard, if you have access)
How this affects SEMINE
If the recipient's mailbox is hosted by Microsoft (Outlook, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online), Microsoft's mail servers may delay accepting the email, so these emails may arrive late or, in rare cases, need to be resent:
- Pending invoice notifications — invoices may still be waiting for the recipient in SEMINE even if the email alert hasn't landed yet.
- Password reset emails — a reset link may take longer than usual to arrive, or in some cases may not arrive at all while the upstream issue is ongoing.
Emails to recipients on other (non-Microsoft) email providers are generally not affected by this specific issue. No data is lost: SEMINE queues and retries email delivery automatically, and delayed emails will continue to be sent as the upstream issue clears. Core application functionality — invoices, approvals actioned inside SEMINE, and account access itself — is not affected; this issue is limited to outbound email notifications.
